Asclepias syriaca

Common Milkweed

A favourite of the Monarch butterfly, it produces a profusion of sweet-scented, lavender flowers. The caterpillars feast on the leaves, stocking up for when, as an adult butterfly, they migrate to Mexico for the winter. The pods are used in dried flower arrangements.
