Swamp Milkweed

An erect, clump forming plant suitable for moist soils that will not support most other flowers. A favourite for the Monarch butterfly, caterpillar, and muskrat. Small, fragrant flowers are followed by attractive seed pods that split open when ripe, releasing silky-haired seeds.

Although tolerant of drier soils, swamp milkweed thrives in moist to wet soils. Once flowering is complete, it is best to leave dead flowers untouched as attractive seed pods will follow. Very slow to emerge in  the spring.
