Quercus macrocarpa

Burr Oak

One of the hardiest, this impressive oak has unusual branching characteristics and corky twigs. The foliage is dark green above, covered with soft, grayish-green hairs on the undersides. The leaves turn to shades of yellow-brown in the fall.

  • »  Pyramidal when young, maturing to a broad, spreading, rounded crown
  • »  Twigs are sometimes ridged with corky "wings"
  • »  Dark green leaves are leathery with deep round lobes
  • »  Insignificant flowers (catkins) are followed by oval acorns
