This low-growing shrub spreads slowly by suckers making it an ideal choice as a ground cover for banks and slopes. The small, yellow blooms bear small, red berries and the aromatic, green foliage will turn a brilliant scarlet colour in autumn.

The 'aromatic' in the species name refers to the leaves and stems rather than the flowers.
Rhus aromatica grows best in a slightly acidic, fertile soil and full sun, however, it will tolerate dry or compacted soils, partial shade, and other urban conditions.
