Pawpaw

Dark green, drooping leaves are accented with cup-shaped, unmistakable, purplish-brown flowers. Edible, oblong, yellowish-green fruit mature to brownish-black and have the taste and fleshy consistency of a banana.

Native to Ontario and parts of North America

Flavour and fleshy consistency of these sweet-flavored fruits resemble bananas. Fruits are frequently eaten raw or used in ice cream or pies, although they can produce nausea in some people.  Early Americans made a yellow dye from the pulp of the ripened fruit.
