A rare specimen plant, whose seed clusters are its premier ornamental feature. The small, abundant, fragrant, creamy-white blooms produce the light green seed clusters which ripen rose to brownish-purple in colour and remain for several weeks. The exfoliating bark provides winter interest.

Tolerant of a range of soils and pH but grows best in a well-drained soil, in full sun or light shade. Heptacodium can be trained or pruned into tree form.
